European Champions League Predictions (Tuesday)

24th November 2009

Saturday was not a good day for me. The best team in the Arsenal vs Sunderland game, in my opinion, lost. Anyway, lets put it behind us.

Most games on Tuesday are insignificant because we already know which teams will qualify. Some people may be tempted to bet on Liverpool because on paper it looks like an easy win against Debrecen is on the cards. Liverpool needs to win this game, and beat Florentina in their last game and hope that Lyon does the same tonight. Liverpool will not give up without a fight, and for them to be out of contention with a game to spare would be embarassing. However the odds are very short. 1.33@BET365 for Liverpool away win.

The most interesting group is still Group F with each team still have a chance of qualifying and 2 of them are household names of football. Barcelona face Inter Milan is the biggest clash of the week and you would think whoever wins this game will secure qualification. Rubin Kazan has pulled off some remarkable results in the Russian domestic league and also in Champions League as they face the Ukrainian leaders Dynamo Kiev. Both games are too tough to call, but I suspect at least one of them will be a draw.

Arsenal although lost to Sunderland over the weekend, they played well and should have won that game. Sunderland got a lucky bounce and basically only 1 shot on target where they scored. Arsenal will be looking to bounce back and secure qualification as the top team in their group by winning tonight. Expect Theo Walcott to get some game time. Arsenal Home win is at 1.30@BET365 but for longer odds, I feel that Arsenal -1 is still good at 1.90@BET365.

SUMMARY:
Debrecen vs Liverpool : Liverpool Away win
Arsenal vs Standard Liege : Arsenal -1 Home win

Good luck

Barclays Premier League Predictions (Saturday)

20th November 2009

I have purposely avoid the recent World Cup qualifying playoffs because it is known to be unpredictable and sometimes controversial. This time round, it was no different. Many punters would have lost a lot of money backing Ukraine, Russia and Egypt. Some may have bet on France to win at home outright.

Anyway, the EPL is back. This Saturday kicks off with a big game, Liverpool vs Man City. Liverpool's form is shaky as of late and Man City had 5 draws in a row. This game will be too hard to call although I would love to see Liverpool win at home. But the risk vs return on this game makes it not worth a punt.

Burnley has strung together some respectable results as they face the inconsistent Aston Villa. Villa is still 5th on the table, but they have dropped points from games that they should have won. However Villa away win 2.20@BET365 makes it a very lucrative bet.

Arsenal recently lost Van Persie to injury, so I would be a bit cautious betting on them. However considering his replacement (Eduardo) who is also a very capable scorer and the fact that most of their goals have come from non-striker players, they are still a force to be reckoned with. Sunderland on the other hand has cooled off from their hot start to the season. Arsenal away win 1.61@BET365 is a good value bet.

SUMMARY:
Liverpool vs Man City : AVOID
Burnley vs Villa : Villa away WIN
Sunderland vs Arsenal : Arsenal away WIN

Good luck

Congratulations to ----- the winner of the 2009 WSOP Main Event!

14th November 2009

I know this has come a bit late, but I didn't want to spoil it for some of my Asian readers who only until recently had access to the Final Table videos. If you still don't know who won, and don't want to know, then stop reading.

It was a very hyped up final table, maybe because Phil Ivey was in it. He was the favourite to win it because he is arguably the best player in the whole world. But it all came down to chip leader (of the final 9) Darvin Moon and the young gun Joe Cada.

This final table goes to show that having a good run at the right time wins you the tournament. Joe Cada was down to 4 big blinds but came back and doubled up several times coming from behind and went on to be the top stack going into headsup. Darvin however made some bad reads in the beginning and lost a lot of his lead, but came back at the end to make sure that he could slide into the final two as Cada knocks the rest out one by one.

It all came down to the last hand where Joe had pocket nines, and Darvin had QJ of diamonds (the hand he knocked out Billy Kopp with on day 8 and made him the chip leader). Joe pushed and Darvin called. In the end, Joe's 9s held up and he became the new youngest ever Main Event winner.

Phil Helmuth's record as youngest Main Event winner in 1989 was broken last year by Peter Eastgate (after 19 years) but was broken again after just another year.

Congratulations to Joe Cada for winning the 2009 WSOP Main Event.

Barclays Premier League Predictions (Sunday)

8th November 2009

I was again 100% for Saturday's picks going 4 out of 4. Great win by Arsenal and Tottenham and I am back to winning again. On Sunday there will be 4 games and obviously Chelsea vs Manchester United is the biggest game of the week, if not the season! Usually I advise punters to avoid big games like these, and in this instance I will do the same again. This game could go either way and with the emotion involved in big matches like this, it is really hard to predict the outcome.

However there is a match that has great value and is definitely worth a shot. Wigan playing at home against Fulham. Wigan's has been in mixed form coming off a dissappointing trashing by lowly Portsmouth. Fulham lost to Roma midweek after leading 1:0 at half time. However they did beat Liverpool convincingly only the week before. Fulham away win pays at a whopping 3.40@BET365. Some sites only offer as low as 2.80-2.95. This is great value considering Wigan is only one place higher than Fulham on the table. However this bet may be a bit risky to some, but Fulham +1 handicap win 1.57@BET365 is a much safer bet and still offers a decent return.

SUMMARY:
Chelsea vs Manchester United : AVOID
Wigan vs Fulham : Fulham Away WIN or Fulham +1 Handicap Away WIN

Good luck

Barclays Premier League Predictions (Saturday)

7th November 2009

It was a great week of sports betting tips as we avoided a potentially disastrous Wednesday with Manchester United and Chelsea both failing to win their games, and did not bet on the Liverpool and Barcelona games. The tips that I gave were 2 out of 2 even though Inter Milan left it really late.

This Saturday is another chance for punters to pick up some money. 2 games that stand out to me and are worth a punt are Tottenham vs Sunderland and Wolves vs Arsenal.

Tottenham at home has been very strong. The last 6 home games against Sunderland, Tottenham have won convincingly except for the last match up where they lost to Sunderland. Sunderland had a good run in the beginning of the season, but after losing to Birmingham, they have drawn another 2 games. Tottenham however had been playing well albeit their loss against the in form Arsenal last weekend. Tottenham to win at home is a sound bet at 1.57@BET365.

I have been backing Arsenal in the last few weeks as they have shown to be very strong scoring team. They may have conceded some silly goals and dropped easy points, but offensively they are the team to beat. Therefore when they visit the lowly Wolves, this seems to be an easy game to pick. Arsenal away WIN 1.36@BET365 is great but if you want longer odds, go for Arsenal -1 handicap away WIN 2.05@BET365. I said in midweek that Arsenal will beat AZ Alkmaar by at least 3 goals and they won 4-1. This game I have a similar prediction. So if you want a side bet, go for Total Goals OVER 2.5 paying 1.57@BET365.

SUMMARY:
Tottenham vs Sunderland : Tottenham HOME WIN
Wolves vs Arsenal : Arsenal AWAY WIN, Arsenal -1 Handicap Away WIN, Total goals OVER 2.5

2009 WSOP Main Event Final Table - The November Nine

5th November 2009

SPOILER WARNING: If you don't know who is in the final table and do not want to know, then stop reading.

The biggest tournament in the world, over 6000 participants, now down to the last nine. Final table starts this Saturday and someone will be $8.5 million richer than before. The worst anyone can do is take home $1.2 million buckaroos. That's why you can't blame James Akenhead for celebrating after squeezing into the final 9 with the smallest stack because it was $400,000 more than the payout for finishing 10th.

Among the nine, all eyes will of course be on Phil Ivey, regarded as the best player in the world yet to have success at the main event. Phil even though 7th on chips will be looking to win because anything else would be a failure to him. Phil won $1.7 million online in October alone, so I doubt he would be pleased with anything less than 3rd place.

Darvin Moon however is the shock chip leader. He himself admited that he had a great run in the Main Event getting big pairs, flopping sets and flushes including his Q high flush against Billy Kopp's 4 high flush earning him over 45,000,000 chips in that hand. He is going to need more than luck at the final table, but with his huge lead, he could easily finish 5th or better.

The rest of the 9 include Jeff Shulman who has Main Event final table experience, Kevin Schaffe, Steve Begleiter, Eric Buchman, Joe Cada who has a shot at breaking Peter Eastgate's record as the youngest Main Event winner and Antoine Saout. Let the games begin!

European Champions League Predictions

4th November 2009

It has been a tough month for punters with a lot of upset results. It was also wise to have avoided last night's betting with Man Utd and Chelsea favourite to win their games but only end up drawing. (save ourselves some money) So let's hope tonight will bring more success after avoiding a potential crippling bump.

Most people will be looking at the Lyon vs Liverpool game. For me it is too tough to call. Lyon is running hot in the Champions League, Liverpool however needs this win. I would avoid betting on this game though because it can literally go either way.

Dynamo Kiev is still on top of the table with 4 points in the closest contested group of the Champions League. They face Inter Milan that is bottom of the table only 1 point behind. On paper Inter should win this game easily and they need to and would propel themselves into 1st or 2nd of the table. Inter Milan away win at 2.10@BET365 is great value.

Arsenal should have won against AZ Alkmaar the last time round. This time at home they cannot afford to drop any more points and should easily cruise in this game. Arsenal -1 pays 1.61@BET365 should be a safe bet. I expect them to win by 3 goals or more after their morale boosting derby win over Tottenham in the weekend.

SUMMARY:
Lyon vs Liverpool : AVOID
Dynamo Kiev vs Inter Milan : Inter Away WIN
Arsenal vs AZ Alkmaar : Arsenal -1 handicap home WIN

Good luck!
